George A. Fieo, age 97, of Glenmoore, PA, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, died on July 7, 2023. Born in 1925 in South Philadelphia, George was the youngest child of George and Rachel (née Marrone) Fieo. He is predeceased by his siblings Mariana, Marion, Anna, Lora, Jeanette, Rinaldo, Orlando, Emilio, Anthony, Richard, and Rita. George himself was the father of five children; he is predeceased by his sons Gregory and Eric, and survived by son Andrew (Valerie Petrie-Fieo), daughters Claudia Fieo (Thomas “T.J.” Fullam), and Alyssa Fieo (Nicholas Miller), seven grandchildren—Drew and Adelaide Fieo; Gregory and Lily Anna Fullam; and Aidan, James and Nicholas Miller—and many nephews and nieces.
George’s storied marriage to Rose began on a dare in a dance hall in 1956. When a buddy challenged him to find a partner for a double date, he turned and at that very moment saw the beautiful Rosie Lammendola stand up across the room. Over the more than 65 years that followed, they created a family and a life full of love, art, music, cooking and travel. As former Wynnewood neighbors could attest, George was an opera aficionado, faithfully broadcasting the Metropolitan Opera while gardening on Saturday afternoons. He was a lover of horticulture, antiques and English history with a prodigious memory and an even greater capacity for wit and generosity.
A World War II veteran who served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific theater, George went on to earn both undergraduate and master’s degrees from Villanova University. He worked for more than 30 years in the Philadelphia Public School system, first as a counselor at Furness High School, a vice principal at Cooke Junior High, and then as principal at South Philadelphia High Night School and Vare Junior High.
