Gregory Tyrone Porter was born July 23, 1957 to the late Samuel and Emma Lee Porter in Philadelphia, PA. He was affectionately called Greg by those that loved him. He also adopted the name “Uncle Greg” and “GP.” On January 7, 2024, Gregory received his wings at his rightful place at Lankenau Hospital.
Gregory, better known as Greg, was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System, and graduated from Overbrook High School in 1975. He furthered his education by attending Lincoln Technical Institute where he studied electronics.
In 1992 Greg enlisted into the United States Armed Forces under the branch of the United States Army. He also served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. Greg received his honorable discharge from the Army in 1998. He was a proud Veteran!
In 1984, Greg met his better half, his lifelong partner, Oma. They held an amazing friendship and partnership, until they married in 2001. Greg loved and admired his family and friends.
Greg was a hard worker, implementing his skills in various job settings until he landed his career as an Aircraft Technician at Boeing where he worked for 15 years.
At a young age, Greg accepted Christ into his life. In the year of 2000, he rededicated his life back to the Lord, becoming a member of Christian Stronghold Church in Philadelphia, PA. It was there that Greg became a part of the Mighty Men’s Choir.
Greg worked as a sound and stage crew member with Brutus Band. He loved to sing and had a special passion for music. In the 70’s he played keyboard for the Bitter Sweet Band. Greg was just as smooth on the keyboard as he was in life!
Greg will always be remembered as being a worldwide traveler, loving to travel with his wife, Oma. He also enjoyed traveling with family and friends. One of his favorite places to visit was the Cayman Islands. Greg had a great sense of humor and prided himself in being a family man. If there was an event, Greg would be sure to be in attendance. On any given day, at any given time, you could catch him rolling down the street in his beloved Lexus, with the windows down, the sunroof open blasting his music.
Greg also loved to visit the Philadelphia Distillery where he enjoyed and immersed himself in various conversations on different topics, as he acquainted himself with everyone.
Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Emma Lee Porter, two brothers, Samuel and Andrew, a nephew Kenny and a niece Theresa.
Greg leaves to cherish his memories: his beautiful wife of 22 years, Oma, their children, Brandi(Kevin) and Eddie; grandchildren, Bre’ona, Kae’la, Brandyn, Nashawn and Natalie, his sister Shirley; two nieces Angelique and Nicole, a nephew Andrew; great nieces Sheree, and Ahnye’ whom he referred to as his Twin, nephews Sandas and Earl, great-great nieces and nephews; India, Jayden (his Man Man), Heavenly, Hanaa, Humza, Nyrese, Antoine and Amari. He also leaves to cherish brothers and sisters in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren.
Relatives & friends are invited to his Visitation Tuesday, January 23rd 12:00 NOON– 1:45 PM followed by his Memorial Service 2:00 PM at the DAnjolell-Barone Memorial Home 908 S. Providence Rd., Wallingford, PA 19086. Inurnment Private.
