Howard L. Strohl, 84, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 24, 2025, in Garnet Valley, PA. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Barbara (nee Plantulli), his three daughters Dawn, Becky & Katie (Mike Ferrari) and his son Matt. Howard was also the loving grandfather to his granddaughter Lucy and his grandson Jagger. Born on February 3, 1941, in Fountain Hill, PA, Howard was the son of the late Howard and Lucy (nee Pfeiffer) Strohl and brother to the late David R. Strohl (Nancy Schwartz).
Howard graduated from Hellertown-Lower Saucon Valley High School and attended West Chester University before enlisting in the US Navy. Howard served in the US Navy from November 1964-November 1968. He completed Naval corpsman training and then served in a Marines rifle group in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967.
After serving in Vietnam and completing his time in the Navy, Howard graduated from West Chester University. Howard then completed graduate studies at West Chester University and received his principalship from Cheney University.
Howard served as a special education teacher with the Delaware County Intermediate Unit before retiring in 2002.
Howard and his family were residents of Aston, PA for over 30 years and were parishioners at Saint Joseph’s Church. Howard and Barbara moved to Garnet Valley, PA in 2008 and enjoyed retirement to the fullest.
Howard was a loving family man. He was a sports coach, frequent fan on the sidelines and a regular audience member at his children’s musical performances.
Howard volunteered at the Veterans Administration in Elsmere, Delaware and received services and care from the VA. Howard truly loved his fellow veterans and his medical providers at the VA.
Howard started every morning with coffee and the Delaware County Times to stay informed about local and national news. He loved to travel, watch the history channel, the military channel and attend concerts. Howard had a passion for college and professional sporting events and was a lifelong Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies & Flyers fan. He also enjoyed college basketball and specifically The Big 5 basketball tournament in Philadelphia over the years.
In keeping with Howard‘s love of Philadelphia sports, his family would welcome attendees to wear Philadelphia sports team’s attire.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Friday May 2nd 9:30-10:45 AM. at St. Joseph Church 3255 Concord Rd. Aston. Howard’s funeral mass will be held at 11 AM.
Interment with honors will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
