James Anthony Riviello, age 94, of Havertown, PA. passed away on March 7, 2026. James was born in Camden, New Jersey on February 22, 1932. He graduated LaSalle University in 1953 with a Batchelor of Science degree in Business Management. After graduating college, James served two years as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. James married his beloved wife Lucia in 1957 and they spent many happy years together until her passing in 2017.
James spent his entire working career preparing taxes. From 1956 to 1982, James worked at Girard Trust Bank in Philadelphia first as a Tax Accountant, then as a Trust Tax Officer and then as Vice President and Tax Manager of the Trust Division. When Girard Bank was acquired by Mellon Bank in 1982, James stayed with Mellon as Vice President and Regional Tax Manager. After retiring from Mellon Bank in 2000, James started his own tax consulting business and continued preparing taxes for a number of wealthy clients, finally retiring for good at the age of 88.
From 1977 to 1995, James was a member of the Tax Committee Trust Division of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association, serving as its Chairperson from 1981 to 1991. From 1978 to 1999, he was a member of the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council, one of the oldest and largest estate planning councils in the country.
After retiring from Mellon Bank and in addition to his tax consulting business, James and Lucia found time to travel abroad to such countries as Italy, Hungary, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Russia and Greece.
In his spare time James enjoyed following the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers and Sixers and got to see all four teams win championships in their respective sport over the years. During the summer months, he enjoyed spending his weekends at the cottage at Echo Lake in the Pennsylvania Poconos. James regularly attended Sunday Mass and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #4063, Ave Maria in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania.
But with all that he accomplished in his life, his biggest pride was his five grandchildren whom he cherished and loved.
James is predeceased by his wife, Lucia (nee Runtagh) Riviello, and his parents, Lena (nee Vivani) and Anthony Riviello.
Survived by his sons, Gregory (the late Darice) and Steven (Leslie), his five grandchildren, Joseph, Collin, Annika, John, and Meghan, and his brother, Michael, M.D. (the late Ursula).
