James R. “Jim”, age 77, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 29, 2023 of Havertown, PA.
Born in Philadelphia and attended Marple Newtown High School
A second-generation American Armenian; son of the late Souren Suny and Marie Prince (nee Hakimian)
Predeceased by his wife Lorraine M. (nee Gibson), his brother Robert (late Adele) Suny, his sisters Helen (late Peppy) Maiale, and Gail Ashbrook.
Lovingly remembered by his children Sandra M. “Sandy”, James R, Jr. “Jimmy” (Carla), and Gregory C. “Greg”; his 10 grandchildren: Michael, Vanessa, Rachel (Chris), Bobby (Tia), Jaime, Julia, Jesse, Kayden, Kristian, and Kaylani; his 2 great grandchildren: Noelle and Emira; his sister-in-law Maryann (late Ed) Riley; his brother-in-law Jerry Ashbrook; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim and his loving wife Lorraine were married for 56 years, and met when they were just 16 years old.
In his early years, Jim loved to ride his Harley with Lorraine, Bobby, Adele, Helen and Peppy aka, “The 6 Pack”. They bought their first home in Wynnefield, PA. In 1974, they moved to Haverford Township and bought their forever home where they raised their 3 children. Jim was heartbroken with the loss of Lorraine, who passed away suddenly two years ago.
Jim started a paper route at the age of 12 to help support his family. This became the blue print for his strong work ethic throughout his career. He respected his mentors who helped him become successful and build his legacy that lasted over 50 years. Jim’s passion for “speed” led him out of the drycleaning business and into 3 Exxon Service Stations, a Harley Davidson Motorcycle Dealership, and finally opening Jim Suny Auto Specialist 29 years ago; where his legacy still carries on. Jim made lasting relationships with his customers and they happily followed him wherever he went. He considered them “family”.
Jim had many genuine, salt-of-the-earth friends which made him feel blessed. Some interesting facts about Jim: he was extremely competitive, a coupon clipper, fascinated with magic, interested in world history, and loved telling jokes. He enjoyed Francis Ford Coppola Red Claret wine, cherry pies, caramels, and anything cinnamon flavored, to name a few. Jim had an enormous heart and he will be dearly missed by all.
Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge Equity 591 where he became a 32nd Degree Mason. In addition, he was an active member of the Upper Darby Township Square Club and the Lulu Shriner’s.
Relatives and Friends are invited to his Viewing, October 14th 12 NOON – 1:45 PM followed by his Funeral Service 2:00 PM in the Main Chapel at the D’Anjolell Memorial Home of Broomall, 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA 19008. Inurnment Private.
