WILMINGTON, DE – Janet Eva Zgleszewski, age 80, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025 at her home, with her loving family by her side.
Janet was born in Chester, PA on March 10, 1945 and was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Szmajda) Dorhan. She attended John Weatherall Elementary School, Smedley Junior High School, and Chester High School from which she graduated in 1963. Janet was popular in school and served as the class treasurer, class president, was a member of the junior honor society and color guard.
She resided in Toby Farms for over 40 years and her house was a source of pride and accomplishment since she purchased her house on her own. The Toby Farms house held many cherished memories and lifelong friendships. She often said they were the best times of her life.
She worked at Scott Paper in Eddystone and later she worked for ECCO in Broomall who merged to become ECCO / Gregory, located in West Chester which she retired in 2015 after 38 years of employment. She was also a parishioner of Church of the Holy Child in Wilmington, DE and a former parishioner of Our Lady of Charity Church in Brookhaven, PA.
Janet enjoyed music, especially the Oldies and Motown, dancing and spending time with her friends and family. She also enjoyed seeing Broadway plays, especially in New York City. Every Saturday night was girls’ night with her daughter and niece Tammy which consisted of dinner and a Hallmark movie. She loved Hallmark movies and her series on Netflix. She cherished the time she spent with every family member, extended family and her friends and her kid’s friends. All of whom adored her.
If you were to ask Janet what her greatest achievement was, she would say it was raising her children who were Janet’s pride and joy. She was the greatest Mother anyone could ask for. She was an adopted Mom by many family members and her children’s friends who affectionately called her “Lovey” who she always welcomed with an open-door policy and always treated them as family.
Janet was the matriarch of her family and was the glue that kept everyone together. Whomever Janet met, she made a lasting impression. She was admired for her strength, her beauty, both inside and out and her fierce love for her family and friends.
Janet is survived by her children Stacey Zee Brettin and husband Ron of Laguna Beach, CA and Christopher J. Zee of Wilmington, DE; her sister Virginia Lowthert and husband Raymond; nieces Terri Knox, husband Win Nguyen and their daughter Zoe, Joanne (deceased) and her sons Jonathan and Joshua. Nephews Michael Knox and wife Tammy and children Jennifer, deceased and Michael J and their grandchildren Tearson and Jocelyn. Rob Knox and wife Clarabelle and children Rachael, Jeremy and Puck, cousins and many other people who loved her deeply as well as her cherished cat Brandy.
