My Aunt Janet was more like a favorite cousin than an “Aunt”. I am only 5 yrs. younger and when I was a young girl I had great fun spending time with her at my grandparents house or down the shore at their cottage in Forked River. We would play monopoly til late into the night-she was usually the winner of all the railroads and best real estate locations and money! At the shore we would go crabbing down at the docks where Grandpop kept his boat. One time she decided to take me out in the boat without his permission, without the motor, and just one oar. We were having a grand adventure until we couldn’t fight the current that was taking us toward the open ocean. We were panicking but luckily a passing boat saw we were struggling, threw us a rope and towed us back to the dock. We never confessed this “adventure” to Grandpop or my parents.
She will be missed and I will cherish my memories of her.
