Joann (nee Vitti), age 91 of Media, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on March 31, 2025.

Joann was born in Plymouth, MA, where she grew up and attended school. After high school, she spent a summer in Atlantic City working, then moved to the Philadelphia area. Eventually, she advanced to the position of Assistant to the Director of Nursing at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital.

Always incredibly independent and self-reliant, Joann purchased her first home as a single woman in the early 1960’s, which was uncommon for women at that time.

Later, she became a loving wife and mother, while running her husband’s medical practice. Growing up with limited means, she made sure to expose her children and herself to as many new experiences and activities as she could.

An amazing woman, Joann had a passion for fitness and enjoyed going to her gym regularly. In addition, she exercised at home daily, and maintained these routines up to a couple of months before her passing.

Joann greatly enjoyed reading and travel. Some of her favorite destinations included Europe, China, Australia and New Zealand. Her final excursion was her “bucket list” trip to Egypt in January 2024 at the age of 90, and she loved it!!

Joann was an especially upbeat person, with a positive outlook on life. A truly beautiful and selfless wife and mother, she will always be deeply missed.

She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Nicholas R. Pagliei, her parents, Elizabeth (nee Danti) and Roy Vitti, and her siblings, Pearl Giovanetti (the late Louis), Marie Leandro (the late Joseph), and Roy Vitti, Jr.

She is survived by her two daughters, Gemma Pagliei and Dr. Jill Pagliei, her sisters-in-law, Marie Jean Valeski and Patricia Vitti, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives & friends are invited to her Viewing Thursday, April 10th at 10:00 AM – 10:45 AM, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM, ALL IN THE CHURCH at:

The first time I met your mom, I was struck not just by her warmth, but by her incredible energy. It surprised me when you shared her age, for she moved gracefully through the house—taking a brisk walk to keep fit, preparing dinner with an effortless charm, and engaging in conversation that made you feel instantly at home. I often think about those Sunday dinners that you would not miss to have dinner with Mother and Jill; that is such a rare tradition these days. I ran into Joanne several months ago. She looked amazing as usual and shared a few details of her trip to Egypt. I always admired the strength, independence and positive outlook. My condolences to Gemma, Jill and extended family. I’m sorry that I will not be able to attend her service but I will be thinking of you.

To Marie Jean, Gemma, Jill and Family, A beautiful tribute to a magnificent lady who spent her life well lived. I will always remember Joann looking beautiful and pristine. Joann was a lovely, amazing, and inspiring woman! As a family friend she often welcomed me in to her home and made me feel like one of the family. I'll miss the delighful conversations, not to mention her delicious cooking! May she rest in peace.
