On Thursday, September 28, after a brief illness, John Michael Culloty passed away peacefully, surrounded by his five sons. He was ninety-two. Born to John and Clare Culloty, John was born in New York City and grew up in Goldsboro, North Carolina with his siblings Ellen, Margaret Ann, and William. He graduated Goldsboro High School and joined the Navy where he was stationed in San Diego. Following his service in the Navy he was recruited by and began working for the United States government.
John met and married Mary Garrity while working in Frankfurt, Germany. He was a devoted husband to Mary for sixty-six years until her passing in January 2023. Along with their sons, they had thirteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. While raising his sons with Mary and working for the government, John graduated from Ben Franklin College. Most recently, John resided at Wesley Enhanced Living in Media, PA. He formerly resided in Newtown Square, PA and Port Saint Lucie, FL.
Along with his love and dedication to family, John’s Catholic faith was an essential part of his life and legacy. He was also a diehard UNC Tarheels basketball fan.
John is predeceased by his parents and sister, Ellen and brother, William. He is survived by his sons: Sean (Elaine), Kevin, Brian (Cheryl), Michael (Angela), and Patrick as well as his sister, Margaret Ann Denise, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be on Monday, October 2, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Church of Saint Joseph 3255 Concord Rd, Aston, PA 19014. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA.
