I still haven't been able to come to terms with the fact that Johnny is gone. I'm a Flames fan and I never had a chance to meet him, but I bought a Gaudreau jersey immediately after he signed with the team. I'm a smaller hockey player as well, and Johnny making it all the way to the NHL is so inspiring. It was incredible watching don the Flames silks. I was always at the edge of my seat and I knew that if Johnny had the puck, magic was going to happen. I was sad when Johnny chose to leave Calgary but as someone who holds their family above all else, I understood Johnny's reasons. I hope that there will be an infinite number of ham & cheese sandwiches along with purple Gatorade and Skittles up in heaven Johnny. Thank you for embracing Calgary. Thank you for all the heart stopping plays. Thank you especially for being a good human being. RIP Johnny & Matty. I'm glad you're together.

McCusker Family left a message on September 8, 2024:
The world lost two tremendous young men with this senseless tragedy. My family had the pleasure of knowing the Gaudreau family for over 25 years. My son playing on Matty’s team since four years old for over ten years and being coached by his father Guy the whole time. Johnnie’s team was also coached by his father so all of our tournaments were scheduled together. Whether we were in Canada or Boston or Chicago we were always together. We lived at the rinks and the hotels basically. Over the years I watched these very young children grow up to be fine well mannered young men. It starts with a good family and the Gaudreaus were just that. I cannot begin to imagine the pain and anguish that this family has to endure now. My family like many others were devastated by the tragic news. Shock, tears, anger, many emotions running through our minds. I close my eyes and still see 3 year olds learning to ice skate using pushers then all of them joining learn to play ice hockey with Coach Guy Gaudreau at Hollydell Ice Arena. I wish I can keep them closed and start over again so Matt and John will still be with us. I pray that God will look over the Gaudreau family and give them the strength to carry on Matt and John’s larger than life legacy.
Ken Denchuk left a message on September 8, 2024:
My wife and I, like many calgarians, had the privilege of watching Johnny Hockey do his magic on the ice. Himself and Monahan lite the rink up. In some ways, we got to see this young man grow up in front of our eyes. I just knew Johnny as a hockey player. This senseless tragedy has brought to light what wonderful men the Gaudreau brothers are. What does one say! Sorry! I don’t think that’s enough, Love each other Gaudreau family. The entire hockey world has your back. I’m not a religious man, but I do believe the boys are sharing a purple gatorade and skittles with Gordie Howe. They’re in good hands. Rest in peace Johnny and Matty. Always in our hearts

Hello gaudreau family, from canada. My heart is with you. Back in and around 2016-2017 johnny was at the all star game and was asked to draw his teams logo from scratch. It was not the best drawing i'd say. But for me it was perfectly emblematic of what it means to be a flames fan. So i got it permanently tattooed on my leg. Johnny's art will be with me for the rest of my life. Big love.

It’s a shame that the world learns was a tremendous person someone was, only after their death. Johnny Gaudreau clearly managed super-stardom well enough to remain a really wonderful human being. We have plenty of superstars; we don’t have enough superstars who are also lovely people. I think that’s why the hockey world is grieving so; we know Gaudreau was special on many fronts, not just his professional skill. I sure loved watching him skate. Sincere condolences to his family and close friends, and also to all of his hockey colleagues. I know your worlds will never be the same and I hate that for you all.

Like a lot of people, my favorite Johnny Gaudreau moment was when he scored the game 7 overtime goal in the 2022 playoffs vs the stars. That moment alone was so exciting and brought so much energy to the city but what makes that moment really special to me was seeing the embrace between him and Monahan as Johnny was leaving the ice. It was so heartwarming seeing how close those 2 really were and how much advancing to the next round meant to both of them! My heart breaks for your family, I'm so very sorry for your loss! For as great a player as Johnny was it sounds like he was even more spectacular off the ice... just an amazing human being with a big heart who would always put family first but made an effort to make time for fans happily taking pictures and signing autographs. I wish I could've met you myself and have you sign my flames jersey, even though it isn't signed I'm torn on whether I should wear it for every upcoming flames game or if I should frame it and put it up on my wall... I hate the fact that I'm currently sick because I would've lovrd to have gone to your vigil last night at the saddledome to pay my respects, I know some of us flames fans said some things about you when you left but we didn't mean any if it, we were just hurt that you were leaving... you were that special to us and I hope deep down you knew Calgary still loves you! You will of course be forever a flame! My heart goes out to all the blue jacket fans who are also mourning and only got to have you for a little while too! Thank you Johnny! Keeping you, Matthew and your friends/family in my heart, rest in peace! Hey Siri, play 'Johnny Be Good'!

I will also remember the infectious smile during warmups of the 2022 All Star Game where it was too early in the morning for warmups and yet John was just happy to be there with his peers. You were only in Columbus for 2 seasons, but I remember seeing the tweet that you signed with us. The season before that I was watching you in the playoffs and thought man I would love it if we had a player like Johnny. And we did. I was there for your first goal as a CBJ. And I’ll cherish that memory and the memories of all the games I got to watch you play hockey. Thank you Johnny Hockey. May you and your brother Matty rest in peace together.

Thanks for inspiring an entire generation of smaller hockey players. Because of you, a lot of young players won’t give up on their dreams, just because they aren’t as big as the other kids on the ice. R.I.P. Johnny Hockey.

We were soo awestruck and honored that John chose to come to our town to play hockey for our team. His smile, the way he always looked like he was having fun in all interactions on and off the ice was a breath of fresh air in what had become stagnate and stale. He brought us hope and we will forever be grateful and remember what it was like to have a great human and player wear our jersey and represent our town. He chose us. We happily chose him. Sending our thoughts, our prayers, our strength, and our warmest condolences to John’s family, friends, teammates.

Rest in peace Johnny. Forever a blue jacket and forever a flame. You ignited a struggling franchise with your signing and brought us out our seats even when times were rough. You were a shining light to our team and our community. I still remember the day I saw you had signed and the excitement that went through me. I remember texting my now wife the news and trying to explain how big it was. She in turn learned to love the blue jackets as I did and we become closer because of that. You meant so much to this city and fan base and we will never forget it. My thought and condolences to the entire Gaudreau family on the loss of two special people.

Hearing the name “Johnny Hockey” made me think of USA Hockey. Unbelievable talent! A name I always heard as a kid. More importantly he was an outstanding person. He was loving, caring and kind to everyone he met. Hearing all the stories about his kindness should remind us how one small act can go a long way. Be a Johnny in this world, we need lots of them Dear Heavenly Father, I lift up the Gaudreau family to you. There is no one like you. We ask for your loving embrace to surround this grieving family. Please provide them strength and comfort as they grieve. Lord, you are our source for strength and comfort. I also pray for the friends of the Gaudreau family. Please provide them with strength and comfort as they grieve. I pray for the parents, siblings, in laws, Meredith, Noa and John. Help them continue to grow as a family and keeping Johnny and Matthew’s memory alive. Lord, we know that this is not the end. We will all be reunited in Heaven someday. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, Amen Matthew 5:4

May God bless you Johnny & Matty and Matty He hold you both in the palm of His hands. My sincerest condolences to your family & friends. This is such a heartbreaking tragedy. You both earned your wings way too soon. There are no words to ease your loved ones pain, but know that many prayers are being offered for all of you. May God wrap each of you in His loving arms and comfort you with His peace and love in your time of sorrow. Just know that the bond of love is never broken. Johnny and Matty will never truly leave you. They may be gone from sight, but their spirits will truly live on by your sides everyday. Have faith, even when it seems so hard. Faith will get your through. Watch & listen for their signs and they will let you know in many ways that they're still there with you always. You now have angels on each of your shoulders to guide you through life. Talk to them everyday and they will hear you...they will answer you one way or another. It's amazing how their spirits can communicate with you. When the pain of their loss overwhelms you, try to imagine the joy they felt in their hearts being reunited with loved ones that have passed before them that they've missed, and especially think of them together forever in paradise with our Lord. I'm so, so sorry this tragedy happened to your family. Life isn't fair and it seems the truly good ones are always called home too soon. But remember their spirits live on and your love for one another will always connect you. God bless each of you. Know that our thoughts and prayers will remain with your family. God bless you Johnny & Matty. Rest in peace, love & happiness forever with our Lord. Fly high with the angels and enjoy your wings. 1321
