Joseph J. McCarney, 75, of Oxford died on August 10, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, the son of
Margaret O’Donnell and James McCarney, he lived in Glenolden before moving to Oxford 7
years ago.
In 1991, Joe opened a Beer Distributor in Brookhaven prior to starting his own business in carpet
installation which lasted 40 years. He then retired at age 62 in 2011.
Spending lots of time at his shore house in Ocean City, New Jersey, Joe enjoyed lots of nights
with his children and grandchildren on the boardwalk. He was a big music lover and attended
many concerts to show for it. Joe cherished days spent swimming, riding bikes, and doing all of
the simple things with his family. His favorite pastime was to vacation to a plethora of
destinations by cruise, such as the Bahamas, Alaska, and Hawaii. Joe’s hard work and
determination paved a way to success in all his endeavors; he was a self-made businessman who
could always be found enjoying a beer while cheering on all of the Philly sports teams after a
long day of work. Besides professional games, Joe would regularly be spotted supporting his
grandchildren in all of their sporting events.
Joe was a loving husband of 54 years to Rosemary T. Maisenhelder, father of Joseph P.
McCarney (Gina) and Melissa Cook (Daniel), grandfather of Gianna, Joseph, Ethan, and
Brayden, brother of the late Patricia Shoyer and Dolly Guido, he is also survived by his siblings,
James McCarney (Joan), Francis McCarney (the late Betty), Rosemary Druce (the late Tom), and
his brother-in-law, Al.
