Lucas N., Jr. “Sonny” Fiore, age 86, of Newtown Square, PA, formerly of Havertown and Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026.
Luke was born in Philadelphia and raised in Havertown with his brother and sister in one of the three houses the family built beside one another for his mother Mary and her sisters. He attended the parish school at Sacred Heart and graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School. Luke was the first person in his family to attend college, earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Drexel University. At a time when computers were still in their infancy, Luke began working with his slide rule at Burroughs (later, Unisys) as an engineer, designing guidance systems for the government. He worked there until his retirement from a team designing international check processing systems.
In 1965 he married Linde, a nurse who immigrated to Philadelphia from Germany, and they moved to Phoenixville, where they built their first home with the help of Luke’s brother, cousins and friends. They later moved to a home on Tyson Road in Newtown Square where they raised their two children and lived for over 50 years.
Luke was always on the move and dedicated himself to his wife and family. He never missed a chance to be at a performance, game, or life event for his children and grandchildren and was everyone’s guy to call if you needed something fixed. Luke was always ready for your next home project to lend a hand (do the work for you). Pop Pop was always available to pick up the sick and injured early from school, help with school projects, or simply share some life lessons. As an amateur photographer, he loved taking pictures of his favorite subject, Linde, on their frequent hikes through the forests of Pennsylvania and on their trips back to Germany to visit family. He and Linde shared a passion for travel and vacationed extensively throughout Europe and the United States, hiking mountain trails, trekking through castle ruins, and enjoying the time shared with each other. Luke was a kind and gentle man who always put others ahead of himself. His selfless approach to life defined who he was and will never be forgotten.
Luke is predeceased by his parents, Mary (nee Geslao) and Lucas N. Fiore, Sr., and his sister, Maria Gordon.
Survived by his beloved wife, Gerlinde (nee Stoll) Fiore, his children, Daniel (Laurie) and Lisa Protesto (Chris and daughter, Brooke), his brother John (Barbara), and his five grandchildren, Jordan Majors, and Jacqueline, Julianna, Joseph, and Alex Fiore.
