Luz Marina Fraga (nee Menendez) passed away at age 99 on March 28th, surrounded by her loving family. Wife of the late John P Fraga. Devoted mother of Maria Fraga-Delahunty and John Fraga (Nancy). Predeceased by daughter Rita Taylor (Jay Anstee). Much loved Abuela to Megan Sweeney (Patrick), Rachel Delahunty (Daniel), John Fraga (Lauren), Eric Fraga, Eve Anstee, and Ian Anstee. Proud Great Grandmother to James, Charlie, and Peter Sweeney, John Sebastian Fraga, and Nathan Kadushin.
Growing up as one of eleven children, Luz shared a close bond with her siblings. Luz, Teresa and Nicholas were inseparable, even living in the same neighborhood together. Luz is survived by her brother Pedro Menendez (Estelle) and sister Teresa Lopez.
Luz was born into a large family in Matanzas, Cuba to Basque parents from Spain. She moved to Philadelphia with her husband where she raised her family. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, and was always filled with friends and family, who would gather to drink Cuban Coffee together. She enjoyed cooking and was known far and wide for her black beans, chicken and rice, and red bean soup.
More than anything Luz loved being Abuela. She was very proud of her grandchildren and loved telling everyone she had five great grandsons. A lot of people will say Luz was one of the nicest people in the world, always smiling, happy, sweet, grateful, appreciative, and she always had a kind word for others. She was a tiny, little woman with a huge heart and she will be truly missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services. Viewing will be held on Wednesday April 2nd at 5:00pm and Thursday April 3rd from 9:00am to 9:45am at D’Anjolell Memorial Home Broomall. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Philadelphia on April 3rd at 10:30 am.
