Margaret “Peggy” Bartel (nee Morris), who was born on November 28, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA to her beloved parents Harry Morris and Margaret “Sis” Morris (nee Curtiss), entered eternal life on October 14, 2025 in Coatesville, PA in the loving arms of her soulmate and loving husband of 57 years – Lawrence J. Bartel.
Peggy, affectionally known as “The Peg,” was born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia where she attended Saint Barnabas School and West Catholic Girls’ High School. Peg was a shining light in the lives of all that had the privilege of knowing her. She was so full of life and loved her family and friends, especially her 66th Street family, more than words can describe. She enjoyed nothing more than sitting on the steps on 66th street with her lifelong friends Peggy Roarty, Jean Frame, Annette Fralinger, and Evie Gricco watching the kids play in the streets and keeping tabs on the neighborhood. She was also a second mom to many, loved when her children’s friends would come over the house and would cook the biggest meals anyone could imagine. Her door was always open. She was one in a million.
Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, selflessness and an unwavering commitment to family and friends. Even in the last few months being sick, she was selfless and cared more about others than she did herself. In true Peg fashion, she would routinely tell her children that dying did not scare her but she was heart broken over the thought of not being able to take care of her beloved children Kelly, Larry, her goddaughter Erin and her JohnBoy. Her true meaning in life was to ensure her family and friends were safe and protected. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends and the many lives that were touched by her. Peg asks that you remember her not for the way her life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Peggy is survived by her loving husband Lawrence J. Bartel, her children Kelly Ann Graupp (Jeffrey “her favorite son in law”), Lawrence J. Bartel, Esq. and goddaughter Erin Roarty – her prides and joys. She is also survived by many beloved cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Harry Morris and Margaret “Sis” Morris (nee Curtiss), her big brother and best friend Harry C. Morris (Shelly), her loving aunts (The Curtiss Sisters), uncles and many beloved cousins and friends. She was also predeceased by her loyal canine children Barkley, Maggie, Snowball, Diamond and Petey.
Peggy would like to send a special thank you to Chester County Hospital for the great care over the years. Especially, her in-home nurse Kelly Medori, Peggy’s self-proclaimed guardian angel, and her case manager Ashlee Flynn.
At this time there will be no viewing or funeral, as Peggy found them morbid. Instead, per her wishes, we will have a celebration of Peggy’s life at a later date to be announced. She always liked a good party. I don’t know if it will be possible, but Peggy says “no crying” at the celebration. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made “in memory of Peggy Bartel” to the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters, Covenant of Divine Love at 2212 Green street, Philadelphia, PA 19130-3197 or you can request a prayer in her name at www.adorationsisters.org/prayer-requests/
Although Peggy’s presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and comfort us in these difficult times. May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry her legacy of love in all that we do in the future. In Peggy’s words, “it is not goodbye; it is see you later.”
“Grief is the last act of love we have to give those we loved. Where there is deep grief, there was great love.” Peg, you were loved and will be greatly missed. Until we meet again.
