Marie A. Marino, 88, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Marie is pre-deceased by her husband, Anthony “Tony”, granddaughter, Cynthia Bergin, and great-granddaughter, Sloane Morrissey.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on April 30, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Francesco Ursomarso and Maria (nee Lanzellotti), and the second youngest of their 8 children. As a child, she would enjoy their annual trips to Wildwood Crest, fondly recalling the time she spent each summer ‘down the shore’. From a young age, Marie was focused on the value of education, attending St. Mary’s Academy for girls in Philadelphia, a school which she loved. Marie met her husband, Tony, while she was still in high school. Even though she felt she wasn’t ready for marriage quite yet, he persisted and they started a beautiful, loving life together.
After marrying Tony, they raised 4 children together – whom they loved endlessly and were the lights of their life. While raising her children, Marie continued working to support her family. When she and Tony moved to Springfield, she pursued a career at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Schools, where she made lifelong friends and would continue to work for many years.
Even through her dedication to education and vocation, there was nothing Marie prioritized more in life than being with her family. At the age of 45, her first twin granddaughters were born, and she earned her newest title, “Mommom”. Marie had an incredible amount of love and affection for her grandchildren. She loved nothing more than spending time together, baking cookies, enjoying holidays or sharing endless amounts of knowledge. She knew a song for everything, and had the right answer to every question. Her warm, endearing personality made spending time with her the highlight of any occasion. She was the brightest light, shining and guiding her family until the end.
Marie is survived by 4 loving children – Marie A. Baglivo (Philip), Linda J. Ceritano (Nick), Carol Bergin, and Anthony R. Marino, Jr. (Lisa). Her 9 grandchildren will miss her dearly – Gina Driscoll (Tom), Jeannine Morrissey, Joseph Morrissey (Amanda), Thomas Bergin, Gabrielle Ceritano, Nicholas Ceritano, Zachary Marino, Lauren Thompson (Joe), and Isabella Marino. Additionally, Marie leaves behind 4 great-grandchildren, Lily Driscoll, Thomas Driscoll, Mikayla Morrissey, and Alexandra Morrissey; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Marie’s Life on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:45 AM at St Kevin’s Parish in Springfield, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, in Springfield.
