Carbone
Marilyn L. “Mar” (née Crawford), age 95, of Newtown Square, formerly of Overbrook, Philadelphia and Havertown, PA, passed away on September 30, 2026.
Mar was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arthur C.; her parents, Harry and Mary Crawford; her brothers, Andrew “Jed” and Henry “Shag” Crawford; and her sisters, Kathryn I. “Myrt” Robbins, Mary Ellen “Roz” Renzulli, and Anne “Di” Person.
She is survived by her loving children, Cynthia H. (Richard) Santo, Arthur P. (Stacie), and Raymond A. (Bethann); her nine grandchildren, Alexandra (Patrick), Kathryn, Mia, Caroline, Raymond, Matthew, Henry, Dylan (Caitlyn), and Julia (Ryan); and her great-grandchild, Roman.
Mar was proud of her Overbrook roots and of being a graduate of West Philadelphia Catholic Girls’ High School. A faithful Catholic throughout her life, she shared her faith as a CCD teacher at Sacred Heart of Manoa. Throughout her 95 years, she remained unapologetically herself. A witty spitfire with a sharp sense of humor, she knew what she liked and was never shy about letting you know it.
Some of her happiest times were spent surrounded by family in Ocean City, New Jersey, where there was always plenty to eat, especially her famous potato salad and family dinners of crabs and spaghetti. Mar had a flair for fashion and loved a good shopping trip to J.Jill or Boscov’s.
She was rarely without one of her signature stylish headbands, and no outfit was complete without her lipstick, one of which could always be found tucked inside one of her many purses. She enjoyed classic musicals and going to happy hour with her daughter Cindy, where she could be counted on to order a Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay, though never more than two glasses.
At home, she enjoyed watching reruns of NCIS and Law & Order with her husband, Arthur. She was an avid reader of The Philadelphia Inquirer and faithfully worked the daily crossword puzzle for as long as she was able.
No baked good was ever safe when left on the counter. Mar could always be counted on to have “just a sliver,” which somehow had a way of becoming another sliver later.
Above all, Mar cherished her family and especially loved being a grandmother. Her grandchildren brought her tremendous joy, and she treasured the time she spent with them and the memories they made together. She was also blessed with a large extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Whether gathered around the table, spending time at the shore, sharing a meal, or simply enjoying each other’s company, being surrounded by the people she loved was what mattered most.
Mar left a lasting impression on all who were lucky enough to know and love her. Her faith, wit, humor, style, and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Thursday morning, October 8th, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., all at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073. Interment at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
