Marjory Petherbridge

Marjory Lovell Petherbridge passed away on Dec 10, 2023 after a long battle with multiple health issues.  Daughter of David Spratt and Marjory Lawson Spratt, she was the widow of Charles A. Petherbridge.

Born in 1929 in Philadelphia, she was accepted to Philadelphia High School for Girls, graduating in 1946 and moving to Yeadon PA.  She then attended Mount Holyoke College, continuing on to earn her master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.  Her training in classical and liturgical music began at age 4 with her father David Spratt and set the course for her career.  She headed the music department at Chestnut Hill Academy of Philadelphia in 1956.  Over the years she was choirmaster and organist for multiple Episcopal churches.    She served more than 20 years as a music specialist for the School District of Philadelphia.  Students from Huey School still remember her classes fondly.

Predeceased by her son David, Marjory is survived by children Sarah (Gary) Rew, Marjory (Michael) Devenny, Charles M. Petherbridge and Laura Petherbridge.  She has 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Relatives and Friends are invited to her Funeral Mass 10:00 AM at Christ Church 20 N American St, Philadelphia, PA 19106. Church doors will open at 9:30 AM. Interment Fernwood Cemetery.
