Martha Jean Franz

Martha Jean Franz (nee Martin), of West Chester, PA died on October 2nd, 2016 at the age of 97. Martha Jean was born on May 25th, 1919 in Enterprise, West Virginia to the late Jasper L. and Leila Kuhn Martin. She was married to the late Jay P. Franz of Shinnston, West Virginia on November 30th, 1946. Martha Jean was a graduate of Shinnston High School in 1937 and West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1941. After graduating with a BA degree she was pleased to return to her Alma Mater high school where she taught from 1941 through 1949. In 1956 Martha Jean moved with her husband and two sons to Havertown, PA where she worked for the Haverford Township School District for fifteen years, retiring in 1986. Martha Jean volunteered for years at both the Haverford Hospital and the Hospital of Chester County. She is survived by her two sons Jay Bradley Franz, his wife Linda and Christopher Brent Franz. Martha Jean is also survived by five grandchildren, Jennifer Franz, Christopher B. Franz, Jr., Lisa Spina, Timothy Franz and Gina Franz. She has three great grandchildren. She will be interred in her hometown of Shinnston, West Virginia. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl.
