Mary Louise Musi (nee Calpin), affectionately known to all by “Boots” of Berwyn, Pennsylvania, died on May 22, 2025 at the age of 78. Boots was so much to so many – a loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Boots’ story started on April 11, 1947, in Youngstown, Ohio born to Dorothy (nee Fitzgerald) and Thomas Calpin. To answer the immediate question that comes to mind, Mary was born bow legged and had to wear corrective “boots” as a young child. Hence, the nickname Boots was born and it stuck.

Boots’ childhood, shared with her brother, Tom, and sisters Barbara and Caroline, was filled with happy times growing up in a large Irish family in Youngstown. Saint Patrick’s Day was the holy day of the year, and it was only fitting that it was also her mother’s birthday. The house they grew up in was number 143. 75 years later and our family does not say I love you – we say 143. (“I” is 1 letter, “love” is 4 letters and “you” being 3 letters).

Boots went on to attend Mount Mercy Academy in Pennsylvania. College is where she would meet the love of her life, Thomas Musi, Sr. Tom and Boots married while both were in their senior year of college and were married for 52 years before Tom’s passing in 2021. They were blessed with two children, Thomas Jr., and Denise. The family grew up in Berwyn, Pennsylvania where Boots lived until her passing. Boots and Tom were inseparable and had a lifelong love story. He has welcomed her back into his arms.

Boots always loved children, which was a large part of why she chose to become a teacher once she graduated college. However, becoming a mother to Tom and Denise was the greatest and most fulfilling role for her, one she devoted her life to and in which she thrived. Boots treasured her family traditions, especially Thanksgiving spent in Youngstown and Christmas Eves at her and Tom’s home. She was the ultimate homemaker and hostess. She was a fantastic cook – some of her favorite recipes (lemon chicken and vedalia onion casserole to name a few) will live on but will never be matched. She became Italian at heart while cooking wonderful meals with her mother-in-law, Lydia. Boots was also an avid reader – you could find her relaxing with Kindle in hand most days in anticipation of her next book club meeting.

Boots’ grandchildren were her heart and joy, Kaley, Billy, Tommy, Braden, Wesley and Dylan. Her family’s favorite place to spend time together was Ocean City, NJ. The meals, laughs and memories made there are unforgettable. She also

loved to travel. Boots and Tom in their retired years especially enjoyed to travel to the island of Aruba, where they spent many happy times together.

Boots was also an avid golfer and a member of Aronimink Golf Club for over 40 years. In a family full of (struggling) golfers, she is the only one with a plaque at Aronimink for winning the 9 holer championship. She also made many wonderful friends who she cherished through her years at the club.

Loved ones that cleared the path for Boots are her husband, Tom, her parents Dorothy and Thomas, and sisters Barbara and Caroline. Loved ones that will miss Boots dearly and who she leaves behind on this Earth to meet again one day are her son, Thomas Musi, Jr. (Robyn), her daughter, Denise Mullray (Bill), her brother, Thomas Calpin (Pat), her grandchildren Kaley Musi, Billy Mullray, Thomas Musi III, Braden Mullray, Wesley Musi, Dylan Musi, and many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

All are welcome to attend her Funeral Mass on Tuesday June 3, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Norbert’s Church located a 6 Greenlawn Road, Paoli, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, donations in Boot’s memory may be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
