Matthew Ryan age 29 unexpectedly on August 29th, 2024 alongside his beloved brother John Michael.

Matthew was an amazing husband, a doting father to be and a devoted son.

Predeceased by his Grandfather John Guy Gaudreau, his Grandmother Marie Lloyd and his Grandma Joanie.

Survived by his wife of 3 years Madeline O’Neil (nee Korbitz), his soon to be son Tripp Matthew Gaudreau, his parents Jane (nee Lloyd) and Guy Gaudreau, his sisters Kristen (AJ) and Kaitlyn (Devin), his in-laws Paul and Mindy Korbitz, his sisters-in-laws Meredith Gaudreau, Holland (Anthony) Korbitz, Garrett (Meg) Korbitz, Parker (Kendall) Korbitz, His grandmother Denise Gaudreau, his grandfather-in-law Arthur Massey, his nieces and nephews Kamryn, Logan, Noa and Johnny.

Matthew excelled as a hockey player at Gloucester Catholic High School, where he played under his father and alongside his brother. He continued his career in the USHL in Omaha, Nebraska and then at the next level for Boston College. He continued his career playing professionally for the New York Islanders Organization, Worcester Railers, Reading Royals and overseas in Sweden. Matthew was a simple person, spending time with his loved ones was what he cared about most. His family members were his best friends, and his best friends were considered family. He enjoyed playing softball in the summers, going to the golf course, taking care of his lawn and playing ball with his dog Stella. Although Matty was a man with many talents, he was a superior husband. Matthew and Madeline were inseparable since they met in Omaha 14 years ago. The last 5 months the joy of welcoming a son consumed his everyday, he was born to be a dad. Matthew’s smile and laugh was infectious and his personality was one of a kind. Matthew did not have a mean bone in his body, to know him was to truly love him.

Madeline, I am so sorry for the heartbreaking loss of your dear Matthew. I hope that the memories you shared and the love you have for each other will help you get through this awful time. Matt was a kind, happy young man who always added humor to my Spanish class. My fondest memory of him was the day that he came flying into class on his knees begging me not to mark him late. My family is so sorry for your lost as a ex goalie in the nypd hockey team we lost two great souls father son husband uncle newphew fan best friend it’s a shame they were destroyed by carelessness and a criminal act may god see both wife’s through this and may there families and kids never forget god bless you all

I know Matthew wasn’t as well-known as his brother Johnny. It can be hard to be in the shadow of a sibling. The love and admiration that both Gaudreau brothers shared for each other is a testament to their mutual support as professionals. I have no doubt that the bothers pushed each other, and in that way, Matthew is a large part of the reason that Johnny was a star. We learned this week that Matthew was a minor league player and high school coach. What a role model and what a dedicated high school teacher. Thank you for choosing to train young people as a career. I’m so sorry your life was cut so short. If there’s anything after this life, I’m sure you and Johnny will be found together forever.
