Nicholas E. Romanelli, of Media, PA, passed away suddenly but peacefully at home on March 21, 2026, at the age of 73.
Born on October 30, 1952, Nick was the beloved son of the late Rita and Nicholas Romanelli. He was the devoted husband of 43 years to his loving wife, Maureen (Furey), and a proud and dedicated father to Christian (Jennifer), Tara (Jeff), Erin, and Rita Galeone (Andrew). The role he cherished most of all—and wore with endless pride and joy—was being Pop-Pop to six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his two younger brothers and younger sister.
Nick was truly larger than life. He had a gift for making people smile, and everyone who crossed his path seemed to have a story about him. A 1970 graduate of Darby-Colwyn High School, he remained deeply connected to his community throughout his life.
He was a proud lifetime member of Darby Fire Company No. 1 and recently celebrated its 250th anniversary alongside fellow members. Nick also dedicated many years of service to Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW), working his way from a meter reader to becoming a specialist in the HazMat division of the chemistry lab.
Nick was a man of many talents—there was truly nothing he couldn’t fix. He had a sharp wit and was the undisputed king of dad jokes, always enjoying the reactions (and eye-rolls) from his family.
A lifelong music lover, Nick spent years as a part-time DJ, spinning classics and creating memories. He was also proud to be an original member of the Philadelphia Eagles Marching Band in 1968, playing as a drummer—something he carried with pride throughout his life.
A passionate Philadelphia sports fan, Nick especially loved the Phillies and Eagles. You could often find him in his Phillies-themed man cave, cheering on his teams. One of his proudest moments was witnessing the Eagles win Super Bowl LII alongside his son—a once-in-a-lifetime trip and story he was always eager to share.
Nick and Maureen shared a love of traveling, whether it was relaxing trips to Cape May, lunches by the bay, family adventures to Florida and Disney World, or a special journey across the ocean to Ireland. No matter the destination, what mattered most was that they were together.
Above all else, Nick will be remembered for the love he had for his family—as a husband, father, brother, and especially as a Pop-Pop. His grandchildren lit up his world.
He will be deeply missed, but his laughter, stories, and love will live on in all who knew him.
In honor of Nick’s indelible sense of humor, we would be honored if you bring your favorite dad joke to be placed in a basket.
