Richard Donald “Dick” Gormley

GORMLEY 1934-2016 FLAGRichard Donald Gormley, 81, passed in peace Memorial Day 2016 with those he loved by his side. No one who met Dick will forget his infectious laughter and passion for life. Dick will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Dick, pre-deceased in 1986 by his first wife Florence (nee Melley) is survived by his loving wife Mary Ellen (nee Cook), his children Richard D. Jr. (Mary Jo), Debbie Gormley, Julie Ann (David) Clay, Elizabeth Gormley, and his 6 grandchildren;John, Meredith, Greta, Michael, David, Hannah as well as his step children Lindsey, Susan (John), and Charles(Genevieve), his step grandchildren Megan, Sarahand Jack and great grandchild Teddy, his brothers Fr. Charles Gormley, John “Jack” (Joan) and William “Bill” (the late Mary) Gormley and countless nieces and nephews.Dick proudly served his country as Lt. JG in the US Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Lake Champlain. After completing his naval service, he enjoyed a successful career in the healthcare industry and was part of Coherent Radiation of Palo Alto, Ca when they built the first laser computers used in eye surgery. Dick, a proud Saint Joseph’s University alumnus, spent much of his life in Suburban Philadelphia before enjoying his retirement in Georgia. Although Dick and his wife relished in the glory of the Georgia sun, Dick cherished his trips home to spend quality time with his friends and family with quick vacations and leisure time on the Avalon beaches. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Saturday morning 10:00-11:30 at St. Patrick’s Church – 104 Channing Ave., Malvern, PA 10355 followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
