Richard Vito “Richie” Vinci, Esquire

Richard Vito “Richie” Vinci, a United States Veteran, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 12, 1940, to Benjamin and Rose (nee Pizzichelli) Vinci, he grew up on Mercy Street in South Philadelphia.
Richard attended South Philadelphia High School and later studied at St. Joseph’s College where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. After, Rich attended Widener University Law School in Delaware earning his Juris Doctor degree. At the start of his career, Richard worked as an Editor for the “Philadelphia Daily News” and “Active News” as well as a feature writer at the “South Philly News”. He was also an active Democratic Committee Member. He later found his calling as the Associate Director in the Adult Probation/Parole Department for the City of Philadelphia for over 36 years. His love for helping people made him an inspiration to anyone who worked with him during his time in the court system.
Rich loved his Phillies almost as much as his love of opera and sang at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. Rich also loved spending time at his campground in rural Pennsylvania and his South Philly row home in the Stadium District. He was a devout Catholic, with a deep devotion to St. Rita. He was a member of Stella Maris Church, where he participated in their Helping Hands program, offering assistance to those less fortunate. He was a proud member of the St. Anthony DiPadova Society, the Sheild and Square Club, Knights of Columbus, a member of the Freemason, and President of the Sons of Italy amongst countless other events and groups he participated in.
To know Rich was to love him. He had a heart of gold and genuinely cared for others. He made a difference in people’s lives in countless ways. Rich’s motto was always “Family First” and he loved them more than anything. His family was his everything and being with them made him happiest. Whether going out to eat or just ordering a pizza at home, they always had a good time.
Loving Father of BJ, Joshua, Rosemary, and Amy. Loving ex-husband and friend of Donna (Vinci) Horan. Pop-Pop of grandsons Christopher, Joseph, Austin, and Sebastian. Brother of Joy (Silvio) Fortucci, and Brother-in-Law of Joanne Vinci. In addition to his parents, Rich is preceded in death by his son, Christopher, and his brothers, Angelo and Benjamin. Rich will be sorely missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Tuesday, November 19 from 6 pm to 8 pm at D’Anjolell -Stigale Memorial Home 3260 Concord Road, Aston, PA. There will be an additional visitation on Wednesday, November 20 at 9 am at Stella Maris Church, 2901 S. 10th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19148, with a Funeral Mass following at 10 am. Burial will follow at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
