Robert “Bob” F. Magliano, 82, of Glen Mills, PA, formerly of Southwest Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and friends after a short period of declining health. He lived a life defined by commitment: to his family, to education, and to the communities he served.
Family was Bob’s foundation. He and his wife, Rita, were married for 56 years, a partnership built on raising a family together, traveling widely, and sharing a deep and abiding love. He was a devoted father and immensely proud grandfather, and the life he built around his home and family was, by his own measure, his greatest achievement. He rarely missed a game when his children were playing, and that same enthusiasm carried forward to his grandchildren’s pursuits. Youth sports, to Bob, were never just games. They were chances to show up, and he always did. A lifelong dog lover, the family pets were never far from his side, as much a part of the household as any member of it.
Bob had a gift for friendship. He cultivated deep, lasting bonds with friends and neighbors over the years, and was the kind of man people were glad to have in their corner. He loved good company, a good meal, pasta above all, and the simple pleasure of time well spent with people he cared about. His instinct toward service and community ran deep, rooted in the values he carried since achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in his youth.
Education was Bob’s calling, and he pursued it with uncommon dedication. He earned his Ph.D. from Temple University and spent nearly 40 years in the Philadelphia school district, serving as a teacher, principal, and Director of Categorical and Non-categorical Funding. Along the way he held leadership roles with various professional associations, including serving as president of both the Delaware Valley Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (DVASCD) and the Pennsylvania Association of Federal Programs Coordinators (PAFPC), and was a proud, lifelong member of the Columbus Forum Educators Lodge #1492. His commitment to education didn’t end at retirement. He continued to give back through his service on the board of the Academic Development Program at West Chester University, supporting low-income students in reaching higher education. For Bob, giving back to education wasn’t an obligation. It was simply who he was.
His love of the natural world found its fullest expression at Longwood Gardens, where he volunteered as a docent for many years, combining his passions for education and horticulture. He took genuine pride in sharing that knowledge with visitors from all over the world. At home, that same passion went into his garden and landscaping, where he found both purpose and peace. A prideful family man, lifelong educator, devoted gardener, and careful craftsman, he was a man who believed in doing things right.
He was predeceased by his parents, Phyllis (Matriciano) and Ralph Magliano. He is survived by his wife, Rita (Saverase) Magliano; his three children, Lisa, Robert (Jill), and Stephen (Nicole); his five grandchildren, Colbie, Vincent, Dante, Alexandra, and Joseph; and his brother, Raymond Magliano (Patricia).
