Robert J. Coleman passed away July 29, 2022, peacefully surrounded by his children at the age of 85.
Bob, as he was known, entered this world on Christmas Eve, 1936 and always insisted that he was a Christmas gift to his parents, Francis E. Coleman, and Mary Veronica Coleman, who pre-deceased him. Bob was the third of five children, his brothers, Francis, Jerry, and Richard pre-deceased him, but he is survived by his sister, Miriam Coleman Brown.
Robert was a proud alumnus of St. Thomas More High School (1955). While in school he met M. Patricia Robinson and not long after his graduation, they were wed Together Bob and Pat were a formidable team and, despite their youth, together they managed to get “Bo” through Villanova, (1959) and Temple Law School. (1964), while also serving in the United States Army Reserves (1955-1960).
In 1967, he joined Marshall, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman & Goggin. Through sheer determination and hard work, he became managing partner after six years in 1973, a position he held until his retirement in 2004 Under his tutelage, the firm grew from 16 attorneys to 400 and was the largest insurance defense firm in the country at the time of his retirement. In addition to the law, Bob was active in banking and a member of the Board of Directors at First Republic Bank.
Although Bob worked hard in building the practice and bank, he was a devoted husband to Pat and together they had four children, all of whom survived him. Debra Talecki (Brian), Robert P. Coleman (Lorraine), Linda Dougherty (John), and Martin S. Coleman (Lisa). Bob, known fondly as “Poppy” is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Bob will also be missed by cousins, friends, and many coworkers.
Viewing will be held at Danjolell Memorial Homes, 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2022, and Friday, August 19, 2022, a Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 2130 Franklin Ave, Morton, Pa, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., followed by an 11:30 Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the Coleman Family requests donations be made to MS Society.
