POMPEII Romeo F. “Ray”, age 95, of Bala Cynwyd, PA and Palm Beach, FL on August 28, 2016.He was born and raised in the Grays Ferry section of Philadelphia. He was the son of Simplicio and Pierina Pompei. Survived by 3 sisters, Rosana DeCerchio, Yolanda Pasquella and Diana Lorenzo and his brother, Eugene Pompei. He was predeceased by his sister, Serafina and 5 brothers; Armond, Samuel Jr., Albert, Arnold and Alfred. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.A WWII Veteran in the US Army, he participated in the invasion of Normandy on Utah Beach on June 6, 1944. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Regarding that infamous day, Ray is quoted on page 180 of Cornelius Ryan’s book, “The Longest Day”.Ray was a successful home builder on the Main Line and Chester County. He was one of the first builders to convert his 10 apartment rental complex in Berwyn, PA into a Home Owners Condo Association in the early sixties. A few of his projects included Brinton Woods, Fresh Meadows 1 & 2 in Paoli, Valley Creek Village and Conestoga Village, among many single family homes. His last commercial project before retiring the was the “Liberty Square” office condo building on Rt. 30 in Frazer.
