Sarita L. Varricchio (nee Bonuomo) age 86, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026.
Sarita has been granted eternal rest and is happily reunited in heaven with her husband, the late Jesse A. Varricchio; her son, Paul Anthony Varricchio; her parents, Anthony and Agnes Bonuomo; her sister, Martina Giunta (Charles Giunta, Sr.), and many family members and friends.
Survivors: Sarita was the loving mother of Jess (Jennifer) and Michael (Angela). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Michael (Devan), Alexandra, Domenic, and Analisa; her loving sister, Agnes Viso; her nieces and nephews: Anthony Giunta, Charles Giunta, Jr. (Dina), Martin Giunta (Kim), Agnes DeMarco, and Maria Viso; her grand nieces and nephews: Gabrielle Giunta-Schmidt (Keith), Victoria Giunta, Charles S. Giunta, and Anthony DeMarco; and numerous cousins and friends who were an important part of her life.
Sarita was born and raised in South Philadelphia on 9th Street, in the heart of the Italian Market. The daughter of a prominent butcher, she worked alongside her father and her sisters, Martina and Agnes, in the Bonuomo Butcher Shop. Sarita attended St. Paul’s Church and School and Hallihan Girls High School, graduating in the Class of 1956. On October 29, 1962, Sarita married the love of her life, Jesse. They moved to Drexel Hill to raise their three boys: Jess, Paul, and Michael. She was a longtime member of St. Bernadette’s Parish. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in October 2022. While her boys were in high school, Sarita worked as a bank teller for Metropolitan Bank in Overbrook. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking Italian food, and baking her famous biscotti and pecan tarts. She especially loved spending time at their condo in Brigantine, NJ, and enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino. Family was of the utmost importance to Sarita, especially during the holidays; for her, it was always about the food, the family, and everyone being together.
