Sister Muriel Kershaw, RSM, age 94, a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, died peacefully at Lankenau Hospital near Merion, PA, on March 22, 2025.
Baptized “Muriel de Lourdes” Kershaw, the youngest of eight children in the family of Arthur and Elizabeth Kershaw, Sister Muriel was indeed the “sparkling light” of God’s life in our world. Her faith was nurtured in her loving family, her elementary education at Holy Child School in Philadelphia, and her attendance at Little Flower High School. Upon graduation, Muriel entered the Convent of Mercy, and on March 12, 1952, Muriel professed her first vows. For the next 75 years, Sister Muriel dedicated her life to teaching and serving in various pastoral care ministries. Muriel’s deep love and desire to surrender herself totally to God inspired her lifelong motto, “Take, Receive Lord.” Wherever she served, Muriel was a “sparkling light” of God’s goodness and grace, gathering others into the circle of mercy with her simple, prayerful, and generous heart.
In her final days, Muriel expressed her sincere appreciation to every doctor and nurse, thanking them for each small act of care they had provided to her. Muriel’s legacy to all who knew and loved her is the complete and total surrender of her life to God. Take and receive her, Lord, and may her “sparkling light” continue to shine in our lives.
