Sister Virginia Marie Kauffmann RSM

Sister Virginia Marie Kauffmann, RSM, age 86, a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, died peacefully on December 11, 2024, at McAuley Convent in Merion, PA.

Our sister, Virginia Marie, beloved daughter of Julius and Marie Kauffmann, was born and raised in Philadelphia attending St. Bridget Parish School and Little Flower High School. Virginia responded to the call to serve God as a Sister of Mercy. She entered Mater Misericordiae Convent, Merion, PA, in 1955, was given the religious name of Sister Mary Virginia, and chose “Having Him, I have all” as her motto. For the next sixty-nine years, Virginia faithfully lived her vowed life, witnessing to her belief that in Jesus, she had all she ever needed.

Virginia embraced the works of mercy and was firmly committed to service as a lifelong educator. Known for her dedication and leadership, Virginia touched the lives of many students, faculties, staff, and families. Her spirit and faith guided countless children as she witnessed her love of God and her commitment to mercy.

As we celebrate Virginia’s life during this holy season of Advent, we rejoice in the gift that her life in Jesus has been to so many as we sing: “Christ, circle round her, Christ may your light surround her.” Our hearts are filled with great thanksgiving, and we believe that “Having Him, Virginia now has her ALL”!
