Stanley J. Lieberman Esq.

Stanley J. Lieberman Esq., of Exton died September 5, 2026, age 93. Stanley was born in Philadelphia May 15, 1933, the second child and son of the late Louis and Frances (Bellows) Lieberman.

The family arrived in Berwyn in 1940 when Louis became the manager of Harold’s Department Store. Stanley attended Easttown Elementary School and was in the last 8th Grade Class to graduate from there in 1946. He was a member of The Renowned Class of 1950 of Tredyffrin-Easttown Joint High School. He matriculated to Drexel Institute of Technology (Drexel University) but interrupted his college career to enlist in the United States Air Force where he served four years in The Strategic Air Command, 8th Air Force. He returned to Drexel in 1957 where he was President of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity.

After graduating from Drexel Stanley enrolled in the Evening Division of Temple University Law School. In 1965 he opened a law office in Berwyn, the first formal law office in Berwyn in nearly 50 years. Stanley was active in the community. He served three different terms as president of the Berwyn-Devon Business and Professional Association. He was the Association’s Citizen of the Year in 1999. Stanley became a Junior Firefighter of The Berwyn Fire Company (Station 2) at the age of 16 and in ensuing years he was a firefighter, Fire Policeman, ambulance driver and, eventually, solicitor. He was a member of the Veterans’ Association of Easttown and Tredyffrin Townships.

Stanley was taught to give back to his community. He served as President of The West Whiteland Township Historical Commission and as a member of The West Whiteland Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee. He was the second President of The Exton Station Community Master Board of Directors and President of his own association, Vanderbilt Village. He was a member of The Roll of Honor of the Chapel of the Four Chaplains. He was a Charter Member and Past President of the Chesterbrook Lions Club (since merged), a Melvin Jones Fellow and active member of The West Goshen Lions Club. Stanley served on the Board of the Tredyffrin Easttown Historic Society.

Stanley was a longtime member of Kesher Israel Congregation and served as President of the Aaron Kodish B’nai B’rith Chapter at Kesher Israel. He was also a member of Congregation Makom Kadosh. He was a long-time active member of Thomson Lodge #340, F & A.M. Paoli PA.; and a 32nd Degree Mason member of Reading Valley Consistory and Valley Forge High Twelve. Always a a supporter of Veterans’ well-being, he was a member of Bernard Schlegel Post 134, American Legion in West Chester.

Stanley loved to teach and for many years was an Adjunct Lecturer of Business Law at Immaculata College (Immaculata University). He was also a licensed real estate broker and owner of Paragon Realty, Inc., a commercial real estate company. As a licensed Real Estate Instructor he taught Real Estate Law at Polley Associates. He was a co-founder of The Commercial, Industrial and Investment Real Estate Council of Chester County which evolved into the premier independent professional commercial real estate organization in the Western Suburbs.

Stanley was active in the Chester County Bar Association serving on The Board of Directors, The Board of Chester County Bar Foundation, and many committees and sections. In the 1970s he became the Chairman of the Naturalization Ceremonies Committee and changed what was then a perfunctory ceremony into the patriotic, musical and meaningful ceremony it is today.

In the 1970s Stanely served as President of the Board of Trustees of West Chester State College (West Chester University). At that time the Board of each college was actually in charge and operated the college. The change to the University system removed a significant portion of the Board’s responsibilities. Stanley took great delight that three of his four children are graduates of WCY and the eldest is a faculty member. His youngest, Eric, is a graduate faculty of Millersville University, and Manager, School of Professional Horticulture, New York Botanical Garden.

Stanley served many years as solicitor for The City of Coatesville Zoning Hearing Board, and as solicitor of the Chester County Democratic Committee. He only recently retired as the solicitor for the Chester County Register of Wills.

He spent many happy hours on a sailboat on The Chesapeake Bay. He was a voracious reader and not a bad cook. His World Map had pins of his travels from Patagonia to Iceland, Europe to New Zealand, Morocco to Hawaii, and many points in between. Stanley’s happiest memories were with his family, whether vacationing in varied parts of the world or following his father’s advice: “Never pass up an opportunity to celebrate.”

Stanley is survived by his children: Ann Lieberman Colgan, Ed.D., her husband Patrick and their children Joanna C. Colgan, RN, Samuel A. Colgan, and Gia E. Colgan; his daughter Lauren J. Lieberman, Ph.D. and her wife, Katrina L. Arndt, Ph.D.; his son Marc J. Lieberman, Esq., his wife Diane and children Lili L. Lieberman and Liam J. Lieberman, by his son Eric J. Lieberman, by his son Stephen Clements Gray, his husband Christopher Gray, and children Erin and Leon; and by nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also survived by his loving partner, Gael Hahn.  He was predeceased by his sister, Jane Lieberman Schwartz of Skokie IL; his former wife, Janet M. Joseph, Ph.D. and his wife, Linda Miller Lieberman.

Family and friends are invited to Kesher Israel Synagogue for the service at 11am. There will be a Masonic Funeral Service at 10:30 on Tuesday at Kesher Israel, 1000 Pottstown Pike, West Chester, PA, 109380. Interment follows at Haym Salomon Memorial Park, 200 Moores Rd, Malvern, PA 19355. Shiva will be observed Tuesday evening at 7pm and Wednesday afternoon, 5pm, at 993 Jefferis Bridge Rd. West Chester, and Thursday in Brockport, NY at the Lieberman-Arndt home.
