STEPHEN MICHAEL LERARIO
After bravely battling through almost 20 years of cancer diagnoses, treatments, and related health issues, Stephen L’Erario, 71, passed away on November 1, 2024. He fought his illness resiliently for decades because he was determined to experience and enjoy life with his family and close friends as long as possible.
Oldest son of the late Rocco and Doris L’Erario, brother to David (Mary) and Paul, uncle to their children and grandchildren,
Stephen was also cousin and relative to his extended family members located throughout Philadelphia and suburbs, other regions of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New England, the Midwest, and the Pacific Northwest.
He grew up in South Philadelphia, playing sports and graduating from St. John Neumann High School. An alumnus of Penn State University main campus, he earned graduate certifications from Drexel University and other professional organizations. During his career, he worked diligently for the City of Philadelphia in industrial hygiene, various environmental firms, and later for many years at Boeing in Ridley Park, achieving awards as an occupational health and safety expert.
Stephen enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and to Italy, as well as watching the Eagles, Phillies, 76ers, and Penn State football. He accomplished a lifetime dream by purchasing his shore home where he thoroughly enjoyed the beach, ocean, restaurants, and recreational activities with his family.
Most importantly, he dearly loved and was so proud of his daughters Stefanie (Patrick) and Maralise (Jim) and grandson Cole. Married to Ruth, their relationship modified over time to being family members, committed parents, and doting grandparents. He was determined to experience his daughters grow up and prosper in their personal lives and careers, encouraged by his deep love, protection, and guidance. With Patrick (Stefanie) and Jim (Maralise), he gained the sons he’d always wanted. Earning the gift of time, he was able to dote on his grandson Cole during his last years of life.
