Susan Marie Cusanelli, 72, died August 11, 2019 at her home under the care of her loving family and Penn Palliative Care and Hospice from a progressive illness. In 2002, she moved to Wallingford, Pa with her partner of 40 years from their house in Abington, Pa. In 2014, she and Dian Panning were married by a justice of the peace in Delaware County.Susan was born at Women’s Hospital in Philadelphia on August 21, 1946 arriving five minutes before her twin, Carol, to Thomas and Ida Cusanelli. Her early years were spent in the West Philly home of her grandmother on her father’s side with her parents, her sisters, Louise and Carol, Uncle John and Albert, Aunt Lucy (Ernest) and her cousin, Maryann (Aunt Lucy’s daughter). With the birth of her youngest sister, Teresa, the house became a bit crowded and the family moved to Pennsgrove. Fours years later, in 1956, her family moved to Upper Darby. Along with her three sisters, she attended St Alice Grade School and Archbishop Prendergast High School. She enjoyed the company of many friends walking to and from the schools. As in Philadelphia, the new street she lived on was populated by many ‘old school’ families that supervised the activities of all the children playing in the street. They did not hesitate to correct or report any misbehavior they witnessed. Susan developed a strong belief in the value of discipline from those close interactions of parents, relatives and neighbors. She worked at Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company in Philadelphia from November 1964 through the last company move to the state of Delaware. She retired on 12/12/2001 after Provident merged with Nationwide. She was involved in the transition from key punch records on a main frame to personal computers with production problems centralized at a Help Desk with on call coverage.Susan continued the ‘Help Desk’ philosophy as a Front Desk Greeter for Delaware County Career Link located within Delaware County Community College campus. It gave her great joy to work with her colleagues in supporting unemployed persons needing to develop new skills necessary for an ever-changing work force environment. Susan’s technical and problem-solving skills were outstanding but her real accomplishment shines is the meaningful relationships developed with family, friends and the people she met along the way.Survived by her spouse, Dian Panning and two stepsons, Eric (Sandy) and Brian Panning, step grandchildren, Katie and Nathan, sisters Carol McCullough and Teresa Lochman (Wayne), nephew Robert Civera(Mary Sue), nieces Lisa Delaney (John), Gina DeLuca (Nick), Chellie Thompson (Wayne), and Krissi Doud (Michael) and numerous great nieces and nephews.Predeceased by: Her parents, sister Louise Civera and brothers-in-law Bob Civera, and Bill McCullough.Viewing: Friday August 16th from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm Saturday August 17th from 9:30 am to 10:45 amCelebration of Mass: Saturday August 17th 11:00 amFollowing Mass: Interment at Saints Peter and Paul, Springfield PAArrangements: Danjolell-Barone Memorial Home, 908 South Providence Road, Wallingford PA 19086Susan was always positive, honest, open, direct and persistent.
