Tom Massimini (born Ciro Mazzone), age 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, June 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in 1942 in Sala Consilina, Italy, his life was a remarkable story of resilience, courage, and perseverance. After losing his father during World War II, Tom’s mother made the difficult decision to send him to America at the age of ten in hopes of a better life. After being placed for adoption he started that life and became known to family and friends as Tom Massimini. Tom built a beautiful life in America. After meeting the love of his life, Joan, he was eventually reunited with his family in Italy.
Tom was known for his optimism, strength, quick wit, and ability to find humor even during life’s most difficult moments. No matter what challenges came his way, he faced them with determination and a smile. Playing the guitar in his youth with a local band, he would later proudly share stories of opening for The Platters, Fats Domino, and Chuck Berry at the Tower Theater. He was also known for his storytelling, maintaining connections with family members across continents and of course his homemade limoncello.
An avid golfer, Tom found great joy on the golf course. After the passing of his beloved wife Joan in 2001, he was fortunate to find companionship and happiness again with his partner Ann as they formed many lasting friendships in the local golfing community. The friends he made in his later years became an important part of his life who provided unwavering friendship and support, especially after Ann’s passing in 2017. Those friendships helped sustain him throughout the years.
He is survived by his daughters Lisa Bradley (James) and Stephanie Mazzone Scanlan (Richard); his son, Michael Massimini (Andrea); and his cherished grandchildren, James, Elizabeth, Gabriel, and Carmen. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws Blandina Mazzone and Silvana Aumenta and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joan, his son, Mark, his parents; his brothers, Giuseppe, Michele, Antonio, and Aldo and his longtime partner, Ann.
Tom’s legacy is one of perseverance, love, family, courage and hard work. Tom will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family finds comfort in knowing Tom is reunited with those he loved who passed before him, sharing stories, laughter, and perhaps even a glass of homemade limoncello.
