Victor F. Gerace, Sr., 99, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Wellsville, OH, Victor later made his way to Philadelphia before settling in Drexel Hill, where he spent the last 65 years building a life rooted in family, tradition, and Italian heritage. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Agnes Gerace; his cherished daughter, Susan Maiocco (the late Michael); and his parents, Rose and Alfonso Gerace and his siblings; Irene, Emil, Salvatore, Michael, Ginger, Jean and Frank.
Victor shared a remarkable love story with his wife, Agnes. One day, Agnes was asked if she would write to a friend’s brother who was enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in China. Her answer was “yes,” and soon a wonderful romance began to bloom. Through letters, their connection deepened, and she came to know “her Marine,” Victor. That love story would lead to a marriage that spanned 73 years, a partnership built on love, loyalty, and unwavering commitment.
Victor dedicated many years of his life to a long and proud career with the PA Railroad/Conrail, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and quiet dedication. He took great pride in being part of an industry that played such an important role in everyday life.
He was a man of simple pleasures and deep passions. Victor found great joy in tending to his garden, where he became well known for his vine-ripened tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers which were always grown with care and proudly shared with family, friends, and neighbors. His love extended into the kitchen, where he could often be found frying peppers, chicken cutlets, and preparing his signature fried shrimp and zucchini. He also took great joy in making pizzelles, an Italian family favorite that became a cherished tradition. He never arrived at a gathering empty handed.
When he wasn’t in the garden or the kitchen, Victor enjoyed casting a line while fishing or crabbing in Ocean City, NJ, a place that held a special place in his heart. He and his wife Agnes created countless memories there, especially during their years at Ocean Colony, surrounded by family and friends. They also treasured winters on the white sandy beaches of Fort Myers Beach, Florida.
Victor was most proud of his service as a United States Marine. He carried that pride throughout his life, often sharing stories and never missing an opportunity to salute the flag. His sense of duty, strength, and patriotism left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
To those who loved him, he was known by many names: Victor, Vic, Dad, Pop-Pop, and Poppy, but above all, he was the heart of his family. He is survived by his three children; Carolyn Rauch; Victor Gerace Jr (Celeste); Angela Juliano (Albert) and a sister; Anne Durso. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren with a thirteenth on the way; each one a testament to the legacy he built and the love he shared.
Victor lived a life full of warmth, generosity, and wisdom. He often reminded those around him, “The days drag, but the years fly,” a reflection of his appreciation for time and the moments that matter most. He was looking forward to celebrating his 100th birthday later this year.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 9:00am to 10:15am at St. Dorothy’s Roman Catholic Church, 4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Interment with military honors will take place at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Victor’s memory to the Travis Manion Foundation to empower veterans.
Victor’s legacy of love, tradition, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Semper Fi to our Marine.
