Yolanda Viola Sweeney (nee DiDonato) passed peacefully at her home on February 25, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Yolanda was born in Chester, PA to Italian immigrants. A resident of Prospect Park for more than 50 years, she had an entrepreneurial spirit. She owned Yolanda’s Luncheonette for 11 years, catered for two swim clubs, managed her apartments, and finished her career as the owner of the Bargain Box Consignment Store. Yolanda had an innate passion for gardening, taking great pride in her flowers and vegetables. She was often found growing beautiful flowers from seeds, which she shared with neighbors and family alike. Her other hobbies included painting, crocheting, sewing, trips to the casino and thrifting. Yolanda had hands of gold.
Yolanda held many titles, but her most coveted were Mom, Mom-Mom, and Loni. Her heart was full of love for the multi-generational family she cultivated. She thoroughly enjoyed the many, many years with her five children, 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She is survived by five children: John J. Capriotti (Dawn), Joyce A. Capriotti Iman (the late Ken), June D. Capriotti Phillips (John), Jayne C. Capriotti Hughes (Andy), Jeanine D. Capriotti Kushla (Michael). The family was blessed with her longevity; hoping for her to make the Today’s Show “100-year-old” Smucker’s Jelly Jar.
Along with her brother Albert DiDonato, she is predeceased by her siblings Frances Palumbo, Pasquale DiDonato, Clara Tribuiani, Rose Cammack and Martha Macgregor and her half siblings David DiDonato, Tommy DiDonato, and Bobby DiDonato. Yolanda lost three grandsons during her lifetime; she was a true pillar of strength while the family grieved for Carmen J. Ranalli, David J. Forte, and Edward T. Hughes. Yolanda was a devoted wife of 50 years to Paul L. Sweeney, a U.S. Marine, who passed away in December 2022.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Yolanda’s wonderful life at St. Mary Magdalen Church, located at 2400 North Providence Road, Media, PA for a visitation on Thursday, March 2nd from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM.; a funeral mass will commence at 11 AM. Interment private
